David A. Kibler

David A. Kibler, OT, was born in Cheverly, Md. and was raised in Merritt Island, Fla. were he spent 17 years. After being raised with a foster brother who was hit by a drunk driver and left a paraplegic, he decided that the therapy profession was where he wanted to concentrate his efforts. He competed in many sports while in High School including football where he lettered as a junior and had an opportunity to attend FSU on a football scholarship. His dedication to his family overshadowed his potential football career and he decided to move to Lilburn, Ga. with his family when his father got a transfer with AT&T. His football desires soon faded and after graduating from High School in Carol Stream, Ill., he attended a community college while working full-time and received an AAS. He then transferred to East Carolina University as a junior and finished his B.S. in Biology before being accepted into the Occupational Therapy Program in 1991. Prior to his acceptance into the OT program, David was part of the East Carolina University Cheerleading squad and remained in it for 2+ years. After graduating from OT school, He took a job in Danville, Va. And shortly afterwards became interested in hand therapy. He took a job in Greensboro, NC under the direction of two certified hand therapist were he learned the intricate nature of hand therapy. He also produced and illustrated a pamphlet addressing the potential for carpal tunnel syndrome/DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis in the last trimester of pregnancy, which is distributed to most OB/GYN clinics in the Greensboro area.

After spending 4 years in Greensboro, David spent the next 8 years learning the trade of being a certified hand therapist and sat for the national certification in 2001. He has been practicing as a CHT in several locations including being the director of OT services at Northern Rehab in Mt. Airy, NC for 3 years receiving a large caseload of orthopedic injuries from a local hand surgeon. In August 2007, David came on board with Tri-County Orthopedics to treat hand and upper extremity injuries.

In February 2008, David was married to Lisa Helton, also an Occupational Therapist and hand therapist from Alpharetta, Ga. and moved to Rural Hall were they have lived since April, 2008. They currently do not have any children except David’s dog (Maggie) and Lisa’s two cats (Feisty/Velvet). David and Lisa attend church at First Christian Ministries in Kernersville, NC and are becoming active in the foster care program locally.
