I. John Orta , PT

John Orta, PT, was born in New York City, however, grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York. He competed in many sports but lettered and captained the high school wrestling team at Pine Bush High School. After graduating high school in 1986, John continued his education and wrestling at the University of Buffalo in western New York. He wrestled for four years while earning his first B.S. degree in Sports and Exercise Science in 1991. Afterward he continued his education at the University of Buffalo and earned a second B.S. degree in Physical Therapy in 1993 while also being an Athletic Trainer for the wrestling team on which he had competed.

John began his career as a traveling physical therapist and started his initial specialty of wound care, first at St. Francis Hospital in New Castle, PA and then at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, NC. He then continued working with the Geriatric population as Director of Rehab Services at Harbor View Healthcare and Tar Heel Home Health in Morehead City, NC from 1994 to 1998, prior to moving to this area and working as Director of Rehab Services for Sun Bridge of Alleghany in Sparta, NC. He continued to perform and teach wound care techniques, treat the geriatric population as well as starting an orthopedic outpatient clinic in Sparta. He then joined Tri-County Orthopedic and Sports Medicine in the spring of 2001.

John’s love for Wrestling and Athletic Training carries over into his current professional and personal life as he has assisted with coaching the Elkin High School Varsity Wrestling Team (North Carolina 1A State Champs 2004) and has provided Athletic Training for the Elkin High School Varsity Football Team (North Carolina 1A State Champs 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006) over the past five years. John’s wife of nine years, Beth, is also a Physical Therapist. Beth is a Senior Therapist at Hugh Chatham Hospital and is Rehab Therapy Services Manager of the Acute Care Rehab Center and of Hugh Chatham’s Nursing Center. They have three children, Caitlyn age 12, Marcus age 6, and Maggie age 4. John and Beth are very active both in their church as Youth Group Ministers and in the local Elkin Chapter of the North Carolina Jaycee’s, where John has held the various positions of President, Chairman of the Board, Vice President, and Director over the past eight years.
