James L. Derrick, PA-C
James L. Derrick, PA-C grew up in Georgia and later finished his primary education in Newton, NC. He graduated from Newberry College, Newberry SC in 1982 and enrolled into the Physician Assistant Program at The Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1984. Upon graduation in 1986 he first focused his attention on the surgical sciences. His preceptorship was in Cardiothoracic Surgery and the first seven of his now twenty professional years of clinical medicine were split between Neuro and Head and Neck surgery. Having a particular interest in neck, back and spinal problems and following a decade of practicing primary care, he redressed his focus onto musculoskeletal problems, most recently attending to those patients with issues of chronic pain. He complements the practice of orthopedics with his familiarity of spinal disease and interventional pain management. He has proficiency with the adjunct therapeutic modalities of intraarticular and peripheral nerve injections and more surgical experience assisting with the placement and peri-operative management of dorsal column spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal medication pumps. Mr. Derrick joins Tri-County Orthopedic and Sports Medicine in the fall of 2006 and will provide dutiful service while under the expert direction of Drs. Hakanson, Johnson and Whitman. On a more personal note Mr. Derrick pursues varied recreational pastimes including golfing, cycling, hiking and camping. He enjoys reading and even writes some. He's active in his local church and has served local communities volunteering at free health clinics.
