Jonathan R. Snyder, MD
Dr. Jonathan Snyder joined the staff of Tri-County Orthopedic & Sports Medicine in August 2009. Dr. Snyder graduated from Elkin High School in 1993. He was a varsity letter winner in 4 sports during his high school career. He attended Duke University graduating with distinction in 1997. After college he returned to Elkin, NC where he attended graduate school at Wake Forest University, worked with the surgeons of Tri-County Orthopedics and spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Elkin High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Football teams.
During this time, he was accepted to Wake Forest University School of Medicine, graduating in 2004. While at Wake Forest, he served several leadership roles including president of the student body. He was also very active in orthopedics research during this time completing studies on vascular injuries in professional baseball players and the effects of anti-inflammatory medications on immune response mechanisms.
Upon graduation from medical school Dr. Snyder matched for a competitive position in the Duke University Orthopedic Surgery Residency Training Program. During his five years at Duke Dr. Snyder served as resident team physician to both North Carolina Central University and Duke University Varsity athletic teams. He continued his interest in orthopedic research with a focus on total joint arthroplasty, including computer navigated surgery and modern bearing surfaces in total hip arthroplasty.
Growing up in Elkin, Dr. Snyder decided to return to practice and raise his family in the foothills of North Carolina. He is married to Courtney Spellman, who he met while she was a student at Salem College. They have one son Henry Webb Snyder, born in 2007.
Dr. Snyder serves on the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and Northern Hospital of Surry County. His interests include general orthopedics, joint replacement and sports medicine, with a special interest in computer assisted surgery of the knee. He is board eligible by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
